4. Contempt: We Believe Everyone Is Inferior to Us.

Because we believe ourselves to be superior to those around us, we lose any sense that we have obligations in their regard. Progressively, we become estranged from the support and guidance of others and through an unconstrained desire for false autonomy become determined to be masters of our own destiny.8 “From [this vice] arise blasphemies, rebellion, contradiction, disobedience, and a thousand other pestilences.”9
